When Radio
Televisyen Malaysia (RTM) re-branded all of its 32 radio
stations on 1st April, 2005, Radio 4 became TRAXXfm and
many new programmes were introduced. TRAXX Selecta was
one such programme and featured a genre based show each
night of the week. Jazz music was chosen
on Tuesday nights and
JAZZ Selecta was born.
JAZZ Selecta,
hosted by DJ’s Jezza and Maya, comes on once a week
on Tuesdays from 10:15 pm
till 1:00 am. They try and cover all aspects of jazz
from swing to free jazz to smooth jazz and modern jazz.
The show also serves as a hub to connect the rest of the
country to the world of jazz when it comes to jazz gigs,
news, interviews and other related events.
A
few months upon its conception, JAZZ Selecta started
working closely with
www.alldatjazz.com –
Malaysia’s premier
website for jazz music. Together they have helped in
spreading the “J” word using two very powerful mediums –
the Internet and radio.

of JAZZ Selecta’s guests in the past are Cat
Peng - singer (Taiwan), Branford Marsalis - saxophonist
(USA), Billy Cobham - drummer (USA), Idea of North -
acapella (Australia),
Funk service international (Sweden),
Global Spirits (UK/Malaysia/Finland/US) and so on. And
from local industry are Az Samad, Shelley Leong, David
Gomez, Anita Sarawak, Sheila Majid, Shahrizan Borhan,
Fairuz Hussein, Farid
Ali, Mia Palencia of Double Take, Gruv
Avenue and also Greg
Lyons.
